Local Love: Francis + Benedict gets styled by Charleston fashionista Savannah Guss of Boho and Bows

It's no secret I love to shop, but there's nothing I love more than shopping with a purpose. Founded by Charleston Local Katie Walters, Francis + Benedict exists to provide Togolese Seamstresses with dignified and sustainable employment. Their profits are used to resource community leaders in Togo, enabling them to continue projects that benefit orphans, widows, and those suffering in poverty. Every fabric is hand picked in Togo and each skirt is hand sewn with love and faith. When you reach in the pocket of any F + B skirt you'll find a small piece of paper signed by the seamstress who made the skirt.

Tell us why you chose the skirt that you did?

Choosing a F +B skirt is tough, because I love ALL the fun, flowy, bright patterned things in life and even moreso, in my wardrobe! However, I chose the particular F + B skirt I did because I was drawn to the beautiful boho feather like pattern with the subtle pops of blue, bright red & magenta. When it comes to length, I always lean towards the maxi style skirt, simply because the long style and flow offers itself to a variety of looks depending on your occasion and how you style it. There’s nothing I love more than a piece in my closet that can be styled for any occasion! Paired with a snazzy top it can look like the most formal of gowns or thrown on with a band tee it can be a casual, kicked back look..the styling options are really endless.

Tell us about the top and accessories you chose to go with it

If you know me, repurposing and thrifting are my JAM! Don’t tempt this sister with kid free time at Goodwill, because I could thrift for hours on end. Funny enough, my “top” is actually a fitted mini dress that I thrifted for $5 bucks, brand new with tags! ( Honestly, another bonus to the maxi style length ,is you can basically wear a full on dress or pants under it, and no one will ever know haha!) I’m a sucker for bold pattern play-something that F+ B skirts lend themselves too,so I simply couldn’t resist the look of the bright crisp white and polka dots with the flared feathered cut collar, paired with the deeper Spring colors and print of my F + B skirt for a bold Spring look. I kept my shoes pretty simple with a nude/black high wedge , I’m short so I certainly need the height with the maxi style length. I can never turn down a good statement earring, these particular fabulous earrings are from local Charleston designer Mimi Striplin of The Tiny Tassel and the clear acrylic with the pop of bright red, were the cherry on top to this outfit!

In general what trends are you loving right now?

Spring trends I’m loving right now are tie dye, smocked tops/dresses,cropped flare & high waist jeans, bold prints and band tees. I also love a good monochromatic moment, especially with nude or neon tones. I’m a true believer that fashion history repeats itself- and I can’t get enough of the current nod towards the styles of the 60’s/70’s.

Tell us about your everyday style. What would we find you wearing most days?

If I’m being honest, most days you’ll find me in athleisure wear bc #momlife haha! But if we’re speaking fashionably, I love a good cropped high waist flare jean with a smocked fitted top or cropped graphic tee. During summer my go to shoes are always a fun, chic sneaker, basic nude loafer or animal print sandal.

What style icons inspire you?

I love the bold and avant garde-ness of Blair Eadie.

I love the super casual, chic edge of Amy Smilovic ( who by the way, is a must follow on instagram- she explains style and how to find your personal style like no one I’ve ever heard. I just adore her. )
