It's no secret that my skin has been a STRUGGLE for my entire life. Growing up it was teen acne, then pregnancy and post partum hormones in addition to the hormonal/adult acne- all contributing to less than stellar skin. My skin was left scarred and damaged from picking, along with uneven tone and melasama/ skin pigmenation from sun damage and pregnancy.
My adult/hormonal acne was tamed by a visit to my dermatologist, which an oral and topical medication was prescribed. Even though the topical cream I'm prescribed is supposed to help get rid of uneven tone etc. I was still left with pretty noticeable scarring and pigmentation, so I continued to try every product under the sun that helped with those things....and I realized that the scarring, pigmentation and uneven tone were not going anywhere, anytime soon. As an ambassador of Charleston Medical Spa I met with them to consult about my goals for my skin and biggest issues, from there we decided to bring in the big guns to combat the skin issues that bothered me. When I say big guns, I mean the Halo Laser treatment.
The following Halo description is from Charleston Medical Spa :
" Halo combines deep dermal rejuvenation with epidermal renewal for a combined synergistic effect you can’t get with any other treatment. Halo creates beautiful results without the downtime of more aggressive treatments. Halo precisely targets years of damage to your skin, including
Visible signs of aging
Uneven skin tone
*only with Halo Hybrid Treatments "
The Halo laser treatment is non surgical, but does have some downtime of about 7-10 days.
So now that you know a little about what brought me to getting the Halo Laser procedure done, lets start from the beginning of my Halo journey :
I met and spoke with Alicia at Charleston Medical Spa. She performed the Halor laser procedure on me and made sure I was well informed every single step of the way. From pre, during and post procedure- she answered any and every question or concerns I had. She was very upfront and honest about any discomfort I would experience.
I picked up my prep kit for the procedure a couple of weeks before having it done. This included products to ensure that my skin would be in ideal condition to produce the best possible results from the laser. We talked thoroughly about what products, medicines I was currently using and on. This is super important,as I was advised to stop taking or using some of my everyday acne meds and topicals just prior, so my skin wouldn't be super sensitive going in which could result in my longer downtime.
The day of my Halo laser treatment, I arrived with no makeup or skin products on. Alicia took me back to a nice, zen room where she applied a numbing agent all over my face. During this we talked about the spots that bothered me the most, being my cheeks, chin and upper lip, all areas where my scarring and pigmentation was the worst. I relaxed with the numbing cream on my face for about 35ish minutes before heading over to the laser room.
This is where the Halo fun begins haha!
Alicia was completely and totally honest with me about the level of discomfort I would feel during and after the laser treatment. She described it as " the worst sunburn you've ever had," and y'all- she was not kidding. She put my goggles on and we started with kind of spot lasering the parts that bothered me the most before doing my full face.
Now, I'm not going to lie here, friends. This part was INTENSE. Brief but INTENSE. Did I mention INTENSE? HAHA!
We then moved on to my full face, which was done in sections. Forehead, then both sides of my face ( including chin, mouth area) and nose. This part was much more tolerable, and I'd say the upper lip was by far the most uncomfortable.
The whole treatment was around 30ish minutes and at the end is where the sensation of the whole "worst sunburn of your life" part kinda comes in. This burning sensation lasts for a 3-5 hours post laser treatment. I took advil immediately after and used thermal water spray Alicia recommended to help with the burning sensation.
So now we start the healing/downtime journey:
l looked pretty scary for a few days post, I'm not sure how better to describe how I looked otherwise haha. I was really, really red and pretty swollen( hello Benadryl and sleeping propped up,) and almost "scabby" looking with the tight feeling and look of Alligator skin. I'd say days 2-5 were my roughest days, again this was all something I knew previously and that Alicia prepared me for. The post care is SUPER important to do as instructed because the skin is so vulnerable that you could actually damage it by harsh scrubbing, picking or rubbing off of the skin/flakes.
You can find videos of my post recovery days under my highlight CHS MED SPA on my instagram but here are some day by day downtime pics from my post Halo from left to right TOP ROW: immediately after, Day 1, Day 2
BOTTOM ROW: Day 3, Day 5, Evening of Day 5.
Day 1-5 were the not so pretty, the night of day 5 things started looking much better and around day 7ish-10 things started looking much better and normal.
*****Its important to note that with the Halo you will be seeing small brown spots or damage surface for up to 30+ days. This is actually amazing becuase its damage that is so deep, that without the Halo would surface for years to come!!!
That being said, I'm 44 days post Halo now and y'all LOOK AT the difference in MY SKIN!!!!!! I have seen the most dramatic improvement in regards to pigmentation, acne scarring, melasma, pore size and texture- my skin feels like a baby butt now!!!
Now, lets talk cost. The average cost of Halo treatement is $1500. However the Halo is this months special at Charleston Medical Spa! It's an investment but one you won't regret if you deal with the same issues. I was gifted this laser treatment, however I can assure you that I have 100% over time spent the cost of the halo on products that failed to do what the Halo laser did for my skin in one treatment. Plus, the results are long -term as long as you care for your skin and WEAR SUNSCREEN. I REPEAT,WEAR SUNSCREEN!
I hope this helps give you some insight and helpful info on the Halo laser treatement! If you have more questions feel free to shoot me a message and I'm happy to answer.
