Lets talk about the B word.

Ah, yes. You heard that right. This 31 yr old mother of 2 loves some botox. The first time I ever got botox I was in my mid 20's, I questioned a girlfriend about how she got such amazing skin and her secret was botox. I was stunned. For the longest time I bought into the "botox stigma" that only people who wanted to look like their faces had been pulled back to their shoulder blades with no expression, got botox.

I genetically have deep forehead lines, which I loving refer to as my "hotdog" forehead and also, did my fair share of wrinkle causing damage in the sun as a teen. Botox just smooths and tightens these areas up on my face . I will say, until l I had kids, I never truly appreciated the wonders of botox though. It just makes me look a little more alive and awake. A little less zombie-sh, if you will.

I am super open about getting botox. I feel like if its something you want to do, go for it! If not, that's totally cool too! Friends and followers, that have never had botox or are interested, usually have tons of questions about the procedure, pain, cost etc.

So I was super excited to team up with Charleston Medical Spa, here in Charleston and have botox/filler extraordinaire, Dr. King, help provide all those answers!

Watch the video below, as Dr. King from Charleston Medical Spa covers commonly asked questions about botox from downtime, to results, units etc.

I hope the video helped answer a lot of the botox q's you have!

Remember that Botox is not a one size fits all.The units and places I need it, may not be the same for you!

I got botox in my forehead, my 11's in between my brows, and my crows feet.

All together my total units for all areas combined were 47.

Broken down into : 17 in my forehead, 20 for my 11's, and 5 each for my crows feet.

Keep in mind, that all areas you may want botox for DO NOT have to be done at the same time! I typically alternate between my crows feet and my forehead + 11's.

Now, please enjoy the treat that is my botox mugshots ( crying laughing at these) below for my BEFORE photos:

Forehead 11's Crows Feet

Botox takes about two weeks to reach its "full potential," ( and lasts about 3.5-4 months ) so I will most definitely check back in with my AFTER photos. Here's to hoping they aren't as scary as the befores.

As far as my personal experience with the procedure, I find it feels like someone is pinching me. You can slightly bruise at the injection sites, but I personally haven't.

Before we started, Dr. King made sure to consult with me over my areas of concern and make sure we were on the same page and that I was comfortable with what we would be doing.

I was then given this amazing ice roller ( I want one at home!), to roll over the areas I would be getting injections, to help give a numbing effect. Also, makeup is removed with alcohol pads over and around the injection sites. I would say the entirety of injections took about 10-15 mins max.

If you're not squeamish, here's a peak at injections into my 11's:

Afterwards, I was initially a little raised and red at the injection sites with little to no bleeding during the injections. This initial "after botox look" was gone within 10ish minutes and I was out and about right after this!

For max results, Dr. King suggested no working out/sweat for 24 hrs after & no laying flat down for 4-6 hours. Something to keep in mind when scheduling your appointment!

Before I left, I asked Dr. King what her number one piece of advice would be when deciding to do botox. She said to not shop around for botox, as in not going to different injectors just based on who has the lowest price at the time. Find someone reputable, that you are comfortable with and stick with them! Also, she made sure to note that botox CAN be tweaked and its not permanent, if there are areas you may want to look differently post injection, it can usually be changed!

As far as cost is concerned, that is based on your units and the cost per unit of Botox. Right now at Charleston Medical Spa, Botox is $11.00 a unit ( usually $13.00) until the end of January. You can buy units at this price and bank them to use later!

I hope with the help of Dr. King & Charleston Medical Spa, we covered all your botox questions/concerns/interests!

Y'all know I love me some good lashes! Due to thyroid issues after both my pregnancies, my own once "lush lashes" were no more. They thinned a ton, got really brittle and were pretty much non existent. Also, my lashes are naturally white blonde, so to look even remotely awake ( hashtag toddlers) at minimum, I slap on some mascara. For fancier occasions or photo shoots, I whip out the glue and falsies but they're not something I could wear every single day. (insert lash extensions here)

So you could say I was super excited to give lash extensions a try at local day spa here in Charleston, Anne Bonny....and to no surprise, I love them! Honestly, for a lot of reasons, but no other than the fact that I can run out of the house with no makeup on and still look half- alive-totally worth it.

[***Let me start with this small but very important disclaimer : No matter where you decide to go for lash extensions, DO YOUR RESEARCH. The last thing you want is the scenario of lash extensions gone wrong- these are your eyes being dealt with here! So make sure the work of whomever you go to,is reputable and done correctly!!]

Ok, now back to lash extensions. Olivia (@lowcountrylipco) is my lash artist at Anne Bonny here in Charleston. We always "consult" on what kind of look I want to achieve and she explains what lashes she'll use to help achieve this look. Also, owner Chrissy ( who is the absolute sweetest!)makes sure to save all your "lash info" each visit, so there's no guessing what was used to create your dream lash look, when you return!

The fun part about lash extensions is you can go as dramatic or natural as you like. I like to try different lash styles when I go, but I typically lean towards a more "glam"lash.

Anne Bonny offers silk and mink lash extensions. Olivia explained to me that the biggest difference is the silk lash gives more of a bold, false lash look. The mink is a more natural, fluffy look. I have had sets of both and personally, prefer the mink lash. For no other reason, than it feels "lighter" on my eyes.

Below are Before & Afters with Both Silk & Mink lashes.

Speaking of eyes, the whole extension process should be one of comfort, and not discomfort. This is something Olivia is very conscious of, making sure comfort is key at all times! I personally, haven't had any discomfort or irritation involved with my lash extensions, during the process or after. Olivia places pads on my under eye area, the process requires eyes closed the whole time- you should basically feel comfortable enough to take a nap

( which is a total bonus- whoop whoop!) Initial full set will take approx. 1.5-2 hours.

As far as fills, I try to stretch the time between initial set and fills. Olivia is great for helping steer me in the direction of lashes that will give me maximum wear. After care is key to extending the life of your lash extensions. You'll need to avoid water, sweat etc. for the first 24 hours. You'll also want to remove any eye makeup you wear GENTLY with a small brush

( no cotton balls or pads, they will snag your lashes!) and with OIL FREE makeup remover- of course, they have all of this available at Anne Bonny.

I don't keep lash extensions year round, simply because of finding the time for fills etc. with the kids. BUT if you're considering trying them out - they are perfect for vacation, special occasions, weddings, photos etc. They aren't permanent and just simply shed with your natural lash!

Below is the information on pricing and time at Anne Bonny . (If lash extensions aren't your thing, they also have lash tinting & lifts.)

Charleston, South Carolina, the place I call home, is known for some pretty cool things. There is certainly no shortage of historical beauty and drool-worthy culinary creations, but ya'll, I think we just hit the jackpot in the beauty department. As Charleston, just became home to the first and currently only, GUINOT Institut Beauty Salon in the US.

If you don't know much about GUINOT, here's a little rundown :

It is the number one professional skincare brand in France.

GUINOT brand & beauty salons are known for their advanced technological skin care methods with pharmaceutical grade skincare and specializing in anti-aging treatments for both women and men.

It's no secret that I struggle with my fair share of skin problems, and I'm all for anything to make this tired momma look a little more alive, so I was super excited when I was invited to visit Charleston's very own GUINOT Beauty Center for one of their infamous facials! In addition to facials, the GUINOT salon menu also includes body slimming & relaxation. As well as, depilation/waxing and Master Colors makeup applications.

Upon arriving at the Salon, I was welcomed with the warmest greeting by owner Jean Baudrand. He's the man ya'll can thank ( or here in the South, give a big ole' hug) for bringing the only GUINOT salon in the US, right here to Charleston.

I then headed back for my facial and met my sweet and super knowledgeable aesthetician Stefanie. I really loved that at GUINOT the focus on deciding what facial or service I wanted, was more than a just a "you pick and pay" thing. It was a friendly and well-informed conversation between Stefanie and I about what my skincare needs and concerns were followed up by her professional opinion on what she thought would serve them best!

We decided to go with one of GUINOT Salons most popular facials called the Hydradermie Youth treatment. It restores "cellular energy and rejuvenates skin." Its available in 8 different versions : moisturizing, purifying, anti-wrinkle, nourishing, brightening, soothing, sun prep/repair or age logic anti-ageing, chosen according to your skincare needs.

Based on my skincare needs, Stefanie and I decided to go with anti-aging & brightening for dark spots. After cleansing and exfoliating, the facial is carried out by using a Hydraderm machine to perform Dynamic Ionisation & Oxygenation by Thermal Effect, and ends with a relaxing massage & serum.

Stefanie explained every step of the facial, answered any questions I had and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole process.

The Dynamic Ionisation is "an exclusive patented GUINOT method that enables rapid absorption of the active ingredients in your selected serum for exceptional effectiveness."

It is totally non-invasive and just slightly tingled. Ya'll know I'm over here trying to get rid of all this toddler sleep deprivation, so I told Stefanie to crank it up-- and I promise it never hurt or even felt uncomfortable. Also, the level used can be adjusted to your comfort.

The Oxygenation by thermal effect "stimulates and revives the skins radiance by boosting cell oxygenation and the skins micro-circulation." This was probably my favorite part of the facial! The wand used is just warm on the skin, not hot or uncomfortable at all. Stefanie used it all over my neck and face, the motion and warmth was so relaxing to me!

Also, all the facials are 1 hour or less. This is so awesome for a busy mom like me, because I was able to pop in for a effective, quality facial and was still out in time to run errands and grab the kids from school.

One of the coolest things about this facial I learned is that it keeps working for 12+ hours after the actual facial is done. Stefanie recommended I use any of my favorite facial products before bed tonight, because my skin will essentially absorb them much deeper & more than usual because of the effects from the facial.

Speaking of at home face products, GUINOT is stocked with their infamous products to treat all your different skin needs. After my facial Stefanie gave me a small sheet of recommended products to use at home and date of another facial, but it was totally non -obligatory and was NOT one of those awkward salon pressured product situations ( because we all know those are the worst!)

Outside of the fabulous facial, GUINOT also carries the MASTER COLORS Paris makeup line and offers in-salon make up application services using this line! Stefanie, my aesthetician, who is also a successful & local makeup artist informed me that it is a highly coveted makeup brand, that is not easy to come across. I had never seen this brand before and it's because GUINOT here in Charleston, to carry this makeup line in store. Stefanie was so kind to give me a little natural "beauty flash" before I headed out and I'm a little bit in love with this makeup line. ( Shhhhh! don't tell my hubby) I really liked the under-eye fatigue concealer it was super light & silky but offered great coverage .The All seasons bronzer comes in a block of colors, so its like four shades in one, if that makes sense,so you don't have to buy a new color for every season!! Also, the lengthening and curling mascara was amazing. I'm a sucker for a good wand on mascara because I hate clumps. The wand is like a mini lash defining comb but still gives a good coat with length & curl! All of these products can be found and purchased at GUINOT.

Always serving ya'll those best looks haha! Seriously though, my skin felt amazing and was glowing!

Overall, I had such a such a welcoming, relaxing and fun experience at Charleston's very own and the US's first GUINOT Beauty to say, I left with glowing skin and a smile! If you're local or visiting Charleston, make sure to check out the GUINOT Salon experience for yourself at 1161 Oakland Market Rd. in Mount Pleasant. You can find all product, price and treatment information on their website.

I promise you won't be disappointed, but I can't promise you won't get addicted!
